You only get one shot with watercolor so it is good practice to create conceptual sketches before proceeding to full scale painting. If you make a mistake with oils or acrylics you can make do and mend - and get away with it more times than not. Not so with watercolor; if you don't get it right first time it's back to the drawing board.
